Not every check is the same check, and most directories hide that. Every listing below says which kind it was, and the date we did it — because a license check is a photograph, not a guarantee. Somebody confirmed in August can be suspended in September.

Nobody paid to be listed here, and nobody can. Listings are not for sale, and no professional on this page has paid us anything to appear on it or to appear higher on it. If we are ever paid in connection with anyone listed here, it will say so on this page, next to that listing. Most of these were confirmed against a state register. A small number were not, and rather than quietly presenting those as equivalent, they are marked and we are re-checking them.

Not included yet. Attorneys: No South Dakota attorneys are listed, and it isn’t for lack of trying. South Dakota publishes no public way to look up a lawyer or confirm good standing — the State Bar’s directory is behind a members-only login, and its public "Find a Lawyer" page is a referral request form, not a list. Both the state courts’ own FAQ and the US Department of Justice say the only way to verify a South Dakota attorney is to telephone the State Bar (605-224-7554) or the Supreme Court Clerk (605-773-3511).
Not included yet. Mediators: Worth knowing what this credential is: South Dakota does not license or certify mediators. The list used is the state courts’ own Approved Mediators roster, where each judicial circuit’s administrator approves applicants who file a form and affirm they’ll follow the Uniform Mediation Act. So "approved by the court circuit" is the credential — real, and official, but not a professional license. The roster publishes no firm names, which is why that field is blank.
Not included yet. Therapists: South Dakota splits mental-health licensing across separate boards. The social work board publishes a downloadable roster of every active licensee, so all five here are confirmed that way. Counselors and marriage-and-family therapists are missing entirely — that board offers only a form that has to be filled in by hand. The state roster carries no addresses, so each city comes from the person’s own practice listing.
Not included yet. CDFAs: Two CDFAs, both in Sioux Falls. IDFA’s search sits behind a "prove you’re human" check we don’t work around, so only individually-indexed profiles could be reached.
